The idea of a "perfect" world usually implies a world where everyone's goals are met, all necessities fulfilled, and all that needs to be done done. This is my idea of a dystopia. Why live in pedantic hedonism when there's nothing to look forward to? There would be nothing to realistically contrast your life to, so it would just seem average and boring. And the exact opposite of this? A place where you always need to do something, while never feeling complete or sufficient? It seems just as bad. A utopia is a place with perfect balance between these.
For me to feel more like I'm living in a utopia, I think America should be way more like the latter of the two extremes. There are a lot of luxuries we utilize everyday that I believe, in a utopia, wouldn't exist, so we can revert to whatever it replaced. We drive everywhere. I burn probably a gallon of gas a day. If we walked everywhere, I think we would enjoy and appreciate our environment a little bit more. Music on the radio. If more people researched music and expanded their individual tastes on their own, as much more time as it may take, there would be much deeper and satisfying enjoyment from listening. School reading. Your teacher thinks high school students will be moved by a book like Catcher in the Rye, so maybe students will enjoy it if they don't go to the spark-notes right from chapter 1 and actually give the book a try. So, essentially, nothing can be described as "lazy" in my utopia. Things like laying on the couch all day will start to feel even more boring than usual by contrast. It will seem more appealing to do things with a higher level of basic work required. People work harder for more things and get proportionately more enjoyment from those things.
This idea of a utopia is the kind that anyone can create in their own life just by adjusting simple things. I walk to school instead of drive and just not get that extra hour and a half to talk in the morning (since I park on the street; no pass for me). I could get past the first chapter of Brit Lit 1's summer reading before giving up. Its a goal everyone who wants a greater sense of fulfillment in everyday tasks should strive for.
